I have a 2003 Bad-boy Zero mower w/27 hp Kawasaki engine. I am having starting problems with it. The battery maintains 12.7 volt. When I turn the key to start I just get a clicking sound but will not crank over. If I hook up my charger and apply the extra 225 starting amps, it fires right up with out hesitation every time. So, I went out and bought a larger battery which has 535 cold cranking amps thinking the extra amperage would do it. The original yard tractor battery with 300 cold cranking amps works fine with the extra starting boost. Obviously, the battery is not the problem. The voltage regulator has been replaced by a repair shop and cured it for a will last fall. I have been using it this way with the extra starting boost since last fall. I need correct the problem and stop the band aid approach. Any suggestions?
Nearly all no start problems end up being dcompression problems.
The starters are really small and only just able to turn over the engine.
So if the correct level of decompression did not happen then the engine can not cank over fast enough to start.
So start by checking your valve lash.
