Rocker pedal

So I mowed with my Simplicity Regent this morning. I can not figure out why the rocker pedal is sticking. I find myself lifting my foot and tapping on the pedal to get it to release. Of course when it does it makes the mower come to an abrupt stop. Not a slow gradual decrease in speed. I don’t know. Is this normal?? I wouldn’t think so. The machine is clean and I’ve sprayed and lubed the linkage. Any ideas?? The rocker pedal is held onto the deck by a clamp tube. I don’t see a grease fitting. Anybody have this same issue?? It’s kinda scary and alarming when the mower continues to move because the pedal is stuck and then releases and stops suddenly. My wife won’t mow with it until I get it fixed. And she loves to mow.

There should be a spring or two on the transmission to center the rocker pedal in the neutral position
Dirt & dust can also get in and clag up pivot points.
However this is considered a transmission problem not a mower problem .
Go give any more meaningful explanation I would need to know the make & model number of the transmission and perhaps the model & serial numbers off the mowers ID tag.

Thank you for responding!! The model # is 1692588, simplicity regent ‘97. The transmission is hydro gear, #1713761. It’s clean and I’ve checked linkages and greased/lubed areas. I’m at a loss?? Could it be anything to do with pulleys or drive belt??

Take the control rod off the transmission .
Now move the lever.
It should return to the neutral position all by itself.
If you can remove the wheel and take a couple of photos of the linkage and control arm
Full forward & full reverse.
