Riding mower runs fine for ten minutes....

Hello, I have a craftsman riding mower with a 20.5 hp twin turbo briggs&straton. Mower starts and runs fine for ten minutes then dies. Carburetor was just rebuilt and I use ethanol-free gas. It seems it would be something failing when it gets hot. Anybody encountered this before?

It is also possible that your gas cap is not venting and stops the flow.
Have you checked to see if your engine fins (if it has them) are not plugged with grass ?
Using non-ethanol gas is a big plus :thumbsup:.
Good luck - someone familiar with that particular mower and engine will probably help more.

Thanks for the reply! I did try the gas cap with the same results, but I think I will try blowing out the fuel line between filter and carb. I know the line is good from tank to filter.

Have you check your filter?

As soon as it shuts off pull a spark plug and check to see if you have spark. If no spark then your coil is going bad

(( racing is the only sport that you need two balls ))

Thanks for your reply! I will try checking for spark next. I looked at the spark coil and hard to see anything wrong but the metal laminations are separating a little. I wonder if when hot, they expand apart more. Thank for your help.

Coils can work when cold, but fail once they get hot.

Problem solved: spark coil was bad! Put a new one in and no problems. Thanks for everyone's help.

I have the same engine did the same thing

I may have to check out craftsman again... I had no idea they were putting twin turbo's on mower engines! :laughing:
