I just saw this website advertised on TV and thought that I would pass it on. We need to do as much as we can to help this planet of ours, so take a look here.

I was looking for a link then saw the "here", yes, many good ideas. I would hope the people getting rid of old stuff after Christmas will donate any good items to local thrift stores instead of sending them to the dump. Best time of the year to shop thrift stores is the week after Christmas, OH NO, THAT'S ONE OF MY BEST SECRETS!!! Why didn't I just sit down and shuttup instead of blabbing to everybody here....:laughing:

Well done Hershey, your attempts to scatter or otherwise encourage awareness of our threatened planet, I applaud, encourage and apreciate.
Even now at this the hallowed season we should acknowledge our imposing presence on this planet and do our utmost to respect this the essence and mother of all we hold precious.

Thanks for the tip JDgreen! I guess the same strategy works here in my country :)

I haven't been sending cards to people during Christmas. People here exchange lots of SMS and emails and Facebook status messages. I was thinking lately of designing a digital card and just send it to friends. That way they have something artful to look at. That's being green, right?

And it uses no paper or ink... is delivered almost instantly for almost no cost, in time or energy burned to get them to their destination... PLUS when it is time to dispose of the electronic communications, a simple press of the delete key, vs another trip, to a land fill for paper ...
So yes thats being VERY green... :smile:KennyV

Very good ideas, thanks for sharing. I think if we all do just one thing it will all compact and help the environment. We recycle, we reuse and we reposeful things as much as we can.

I use old flyers to wrap presents with instead of buying wrapping paper. It cuts down on my costs and recycles for me. I try to do my part.

One of the long-term editors for our local newspaper recently wrote in his blog that he and his wife used the newspaper to wrap Christmas gifts in...how fitting !! Maybe 25 years ago I used brown paper bags to wrap gifts in, and wrote on the packages "generic Xmas wrap". This was about the time the generic, black-and white cartoned groceries were on the shelves at stores, any one else remember those products?

We cleaned up last night, putting the recyclable plastic packaging all into one bag and the recyclable paper packaging into three (yes, three!) bags. All that was left for actual trash was about 1/2 bag of styrofoam packaging. There's no way to recycle styrofoam, is there?

Styrofoam irritates me. It has a recycle triangle on it, or it does here and yet there are no facilities that can recycle it so it becomes garbage. I think they need to look into a new type of packing material.
