RE 130 Has Terrible Front Bearings

I have a 2013 RE 130 rear engine rider. I just jacked up the mower to remove a front tire and I notice how much the front tires wobble. I took them both off the their is an incredible amount of play in all of the front wheel bearings. The bearings seem intact with not missing ball bearings but you can literally move each tire sideways about a 1/2". I have some bulges in one of the tubeless tire side walls. Does anyone have a source for some after market front wheel assemblies with better bearings and 4 ply tires? Front tire assembly is 7105138YP Tire is 11 X 4.00 - 4.

Some tire rims have plastic bushings, maybe yours did and they have worn completely away.

I am saying that because if the bearings are all there and you have that much wobble...something is missing...IMO.

Seems like a lot of play in your wheels for having ball bearings. You sure have something wrong? Do the spindles have wear groves in them? Are the bearings shot? do you have the wrong bearings? are the bearings loose in the wheels? Being ball bearings you may have a little play but not as much as you do. Look close at everything should see something worn out. Repair your problem and with a new set of proper bearings and you will be good to go.

Going to the dealer I bought it from tomorrow with both front wheels and see what he says about the bearing slop. These are not worn out. They have been like this from day one but I have lived with it since the dealer is an hour drive away.

So you knew they were like this when it was new. Now that its going over two years they might not do anything for you? Like I said a little earlier its normal for ball bearing to have a very play in them but not no 1/2 inch. You should only feel a few thousands play which is normal for ball bearings but not tapered bearings. It all most sounds to me like someone put the wrong bearings in it somewhere along in its life??? I sure hope you the best of luck with the dealer but I have worked in dealer ships and I just have a feeling they are going to ask you why you waited so long, so sure don't tell them you knew they were like this from day one. You can measure the spindle size, wheel bore size and the width of the bearings and buy new bearings in most auto parts stores like NAPA. If someone can cross the bearing size to a bearing number for you, you can buy new bearing on E-Bay. For sure don't go by the old bearings if they are the wrong bearings but by size. Hope you the best of luck on this.

I bought this mower new from a Snapper dealer. These are the OEM bearings. I just ran out of my two year warranty last month. I am not expecting the dealer to replace anything for free. As I explained earlier I did not go back to the dealer yet because it is a one hour drive. Now that I have a tire issue as well and no local place to get it fixed I am taking the front tires in and will be curious to see what they think about the front bearings.

1/2" sideways? Your not missing 1/2 spacers/ washers are you? Sounds like he means the spindles are to long?

No, the hub is not sliding sideways on the axle. The entire tire assembly "wobbles" as much as 1/2". There is that much "slop" in the bearings.

The wheel bearings used on a lot of mowers are very shallow welled so have a lot of "twist".
Worse than putting a C3 fit into a non -interfearence fit.
I use aftermarket wheel bearings and they come in two grades.
Most of the bearings where the outer are forms a sort of a cup are sloppy bearings and they do not ge any better with time.
However I have "upgraded" some mwers with deep bearings only to have the owners complain of difficult steering.

I agree 100%, If there is 1/2 inch slop in the bearing something isn't right. If they were that way from new something is sure wrong. I few thousands maybe. If they are OEM bearings I sure would be checking out aftermarket bearings. Just take out one of the bearings and it should have a number on it. Take this bearing number to a auto parts and compare it to one of there bearing.

I went to the Snapper dealer today and showed him how much wobble was in the bearings. He brought some new ones out and they were very tight with no "slop." I think I just got some very low quality bearings. I am surprised that it got past Snapper QC.

Snapper of Georgia is no longer and the new improved Wisconsin Snapper's are not of the same quality I believe..
My neighbor gave his SR RER to his son and bought a new model..
It has a much higher center of gravity (bad for cutting slopes) and a thin sheet metal body...
The body on my Type 5 is just under 1/8" thick..

There is no more QC ( quality control ) so we may as well quit wasting our time typing those words.

Thank You
