PTO switch burn up ? -twice . Simplicity Landlord 18hp Vanguard

PTO switch is burning up within hours of replacement , connections clean , wires get hot at switch , resistance across pto clutch leads is 2.5 ohms. gap is correct . Do we need to replace the pto clutch ?

Sounds like either a bad connection someplace in the wiring, or there is a short in the clutch causes it to draw too many amps. Unplug the clutch and take a ohm reading between one of the wires and the medal part of the clutch. If you have continuity replace the clutch because you have a short. Have seen more than one clutch with a intermittent short, so you may want to replace the clutch just in case.

Thanks , Looked for short and found none , Bypassed all wiring and connected directly to 12v source - pigtail on PTO , the pigtail to the PTO gets hot when energized with 12v Replace PTO clutch or get coil kit and just replace the coil ? Thanks

Also looked for a ground as described from each lead to ground and found none , I am assuming the PTO coil operates on 12v . Thanks

May not be much difference in price between complete clutch and the coil pack with consist of over half the clutch assy anyway.

So you would recommend the PTO replacement plus another new switch . The last switch I put in smoked and now has an intermittent condition (only works cold , I imagine the contacts are burnt up a bit , and since they are sealed it would be a 20 dollar throw away item anyhow ) Thanks for your speedy reply I can go to SEPW and get pretty good price and shipping .

Where can you get just the coils for clutches?
