Please help me find this part!

Alright you guys, I have searched forever for this one simple part. I don't know why it's so impossible to find, but it seems to be. I have a Cub Cadet XT1 Enduro 50", and it has been mostly a <fkn> lemon since I've had it (about 9 years?). ANYWAY, I had a hose rot and the mower wouldn't run anymore. So the hose runs to the top of the gas tank, and then into the air filter area. Without it, the engine will run for a bit but then sputter out. My searches have suggested that it's an EPA EVAP hose, but I have been unable to confirm, and unable to find one for purchase. I found what Kohler showed was the part, and the part number, but nobody sold it, and I had to go to China to finally find one. When it eventually came in, it was like 5 inches long. This thing is supposed to be like 4 feet! Can someone PLEASE shed some light on this?! I really need to cut my grass.

I hope I picked the correct model number since I am just guessing which one of the 5 models of mower you may have.

Item 1 is part number 751-12089-51 or 751-12089-45 depending on length

The thing about lawnmowers is the engine, transmission and the mower itself are considered 3 different products as far as parts lookup . So what you posted is the part number for the vent line that comes with the engine from the factory. The part from the engine to the tank would be considered a MTD Cub Cadet part,

I'm coming up with 751-12089-34 for the 13AQA1TLA10 model (all four years). This is a 3/16 ID by 34 inches length hose. Can be a simple rubber vacuum line hose or a braid fuel line hose. The vacuum hose is not meant for handling raw fuel but works fine as a vent line. Your local auto parts dealer should have it.

BTW the PNs IL post are also valid as they are 51 and 45 inch length 3/16 hoses.

1735385586536.png
Personally I stock both types here in bulk lengths as I worked on kids ATV until late this year. But a couple ripoff customers has caused me to quit servicing them. They can now go to the higher priced shops.

do you have any of it? They only need a small piece to measure the inside diameter. Then just get 6 - 8", route it to where it goes and cut off any remaining....

My lord it is a common vacuum hose that has a 5/16 OD.

Then he can buy the 751-12089-34 hose from a MTD dealer. It is currently lists for $8.26 plus shc or pay even more from a Cub Cadet dealer. I don't care.

Personally I buy it in Oil-Resistant Buna-N Rubber Tubing, 3/16" ID, 5/16" OD @ $0.84 per foot; usually at 25 ft lengths. I even have the braided type which is 7/16 OD but of course that one cost me $1.71 /ft

And how are we suppose to provide the exact length by part number when the OP never provided the actual model number of the mower. Not hard to go to any auto parts store and tell them you need 4 feet of 3/16 vacuum hose. Even some hardware stores will carry what is needed for this repair.

IL you are overlooking the bottom of post #3. I know to scan all of the posts when using a smartphone which many of the users here use. Personally I use a regular computer screen and actually getting to go to a 24" screen.

The comment was not direct at you but at another poster that assume I didn't do my research for the correct part number. Of course I didn't give the OD as I assume it would be the standard OD but that not as important as the ID and length. The only time OD become overly important on hoses is when you having to feed them thru the engine such as between flywheels and crankcases. Tecumseh engines are one these engines that a standard 1/4 id fuel just won't fed thru. That because a standard 1/4" has an OD of 1/2". In these cases I need the 1/4" ID and 7/16"OD line.

That is something have I learned not to do. And learning to have patience is also something I have learned and still learning to control. I have to remind myself I am not dealing with knowledgeable mechanics. Same goes our tech support people if you get my drift.

Sometimes I have reread an entire thread before I post. It would be a lot easier if the required info is initially posted as I see here that many just read the first post and skip everything else.

The not posting this info makes it very hard to remote find info and troubleshoot. But some posters think it is a crime to post this info but to look up things it is a requirement. Even serial numbers are needed at time due revisions the OEM did.

And the worst thing no two machines are identical everyone seems to have something different depending the manufacture sources. Even identical twins will have something different if you look long enough.

Thanks, but no offense taken...
forums like these almost need a mandatory "fill in the blanks", i.e. pertinent make, model, part#, etc. and add any photo's for original postings - instead of trying to read posters minds. I know no one wants to try reading mine, it will be a fast assignment... 🤔

Reading this twice, I didn’t see any mention of molded vs bulk hose. Typically OE will use a molded hose I.e. bends are molded in. The only caution I offer using bulk, be sure the hose doesn’t crimp or restrict flow when routed.
I do enjoy a lively conversation on what appears to be a simple subject. Glad he didn’t ask what brand of oil to use😄😄😄😄
Happy new year to all

Don't think I haven't been researching the best oil to use! I get super waaaay too in depth on things. This one just flabbergasted me since it's part engine and part mower, so it's confusing lol.

I recommend that you change out all the fuel line hoses, filter, pump and clean up the inside of that carburetor. Empty the tank and clean it as well. I seriously don't think that hose your replacing is your root problem.

I concur with above posters. If you are a mechanically inclined, resourceful kind of person, you can go to an auto parts store instore or online and find what you need. A lot of parts such as hoses, spark plugs, oil filters can be cross referenced with automotive. There is no rule that says you have to use ALL oem parts on your mower, unless it is something that would void a warranty.

If the ends are intact buy a length of fuel proof hose from ace hardware and make a new one
They have a fuel resistant silicone type adhesive to bond them.

I haven't read this entire thread; but, I would like to make a comment to you regarding finding Cub Cadet parts. Normally, I first go to the Cub Cadet website to see if I can find an appropriate parts diagram. If that doesn't work, since MTD now makes Cub Cadet and, me having a couple of 2009 GT3200s with all of the various mower decks, plus the 45" hydraulic snow thrower, I have sometimes found it useful to call MTD and explain to them what I'm trying to find. They are usually able to help me immediately. I can then choose to purchase from them or use their info to purchase elsewhere.

My question is why it wont run without it?
Maybe carb's jetted so lean it needs the tank vapor?

If it's just a vent hose, why don't you take what you have to the auto parts store, match the inner and outer diameters and either splice on the added length needed or just but the full length of hose.

This... I'd take the old hose to NAPA and ask them for a 4ft replacement. They'll have something. Gas hoses come in all different sizes - it appears yours is not metric (3/16).

#41

Z

It’s a vent hose. You do not need it to use mower. Let the tank breath air normally and plug up the carb hole so it does not breath additional air. The purpose of the line is to suck gas fumes back into the carburetor and not allow the gas tank to vent to normal air like every other lawnmower on the planet.

With the trouble you have had locating a hose would it be possible to buy some hose and make a splice to extend the length of the part that you have?

That hose is simply and excess vapor hose and should not affect the running of the engine. You can plug it off and the engine should still run normally.

I think you have more than just this minor hose to worry with. Most likely the carburetor needs to be cleaned and the fuel replaced if it has been sitting over a few months

I've got a Cub Cadet, and the hose At Top of tank is the Fuel Line. I know, How? There is an extension under that fitting on top of tank that reaches to bottom of tank. Make sure it's all air tight or the Pump will suck air and not gas. Crazy, I know.

I'm guessing by now someone has mentioned this, but I will go ahead anyway. It's a simple thing of just taking the hose to any auto parts store, tell them it's for the evap system on a mower. They should be able to match up the inside diameter with the bulk hose they have and cut you a piece to the length you need.

If you had bother to look up the mower's 951-05101C fuel tank you would had known the fuel exits the bottom of the tank and the top port is a rollover valve with a vent line.

The issue is that the original dry rotted into pieces. I have found the original and ordered it, though. Thank you for the input though!

Don't think I haven't been researching the best oil to use! I get super waaaay too in depth on things. This one just flabbergasted me since it's part engine and part mower, so it's confusing lol.

I really appreciate all you guys, and your helpfulness, and the fast responses. This mower seems to almost be a lemon. Have to fix stuff every season
The guys here will indulge you on oil preference! I use.... Nah

I'd like to see a pic of your gas cap. This may be some sort of anti-siphon 'fix' from Cub Cadet.
It's already dark out tonight, but it attaches to the top of the tank, and then to the carburetor.

And HOPE you have the original carb that came on it, those aftermarket carbs are JUNK. I'd sure go thru your carb with a good cleaning if your prob. is fuel related. If that hose disintegrated, your other rubber hoses probably needed replaced too.

Go to auto parts and get a piece of hose.

Speaking of being a <fkn> lemon, I bought a new snowblower 2X 30" and it has had its share of problems. The business I bought it from is great, but Cub Cadet is horrible to deal with. They argue and fight with the dealer on what might be wrong with it and simply refuse to do what the business feels needs done to it. It was literally at the business for warranty from Jan 2024 to Nov 2024!!!!!!! And still not sure anything got fixed. So, I have no choice but to say, "Stay away from Cub Cadet"!

Yes some a royal pain to deal with which is one reason I am a n independent shop. Most OEMs are basically terrible after the sale. If you read the warranties they basically have no responsibility except to replace defective items on the equipment. Even then they will fight you every inch of the way at times.

Just recently had to personally warranty a pressure washer pump with a Simpson pump. Simpson flat refuse to honor their warranty as the they had recently stop manufacturing the pump. Three month into the one year warranty. I found that they had installed a bad piston which took out all the seals including the crankcase seal. I had to eat about $170 in repair parts on a $200 pump. That will be the last Simpson pressure washer pump I buy and sell.

And BTW the local authorize Simpson repair shops had refused to even take the pump in because Simpson refused to pay for warranty that they had already had done.

Simpson doesn't give me any issues as far as warranty. The issue I run into is getting Gardner to process the claim and issue the credit on the account without emailing the warranty department and basically say you are not doing your job. Simpson gave me fits this past summer on one of the pressure washers with a CAT pump. Now CAT pumps have to be shipped back to CAT at owner expense for warranty consideration. But after requesting the RNA, CAT approved the pump, and shipped me a new pump and then FNA paid for the warranty plus the return freight.

The thing with Simpson/FNA is there is a $0 warranty approval, so everything has to be factory approved prior to warranty repair. Pumps are not repaired the are replaced with a pump shipped from FNA in Mount Prospect, IL and then the old pump is shipped back using the return tag supplied in the box that was shipped to you with the replacement pump. FNA supplies the dealer with a reference number that is basically your approval to file the warranty claim with Gardner. I probably file 1-2 claims a month during the summer and a few scattered throughout the slower months.

The biggest issue I see with pressure washers is frozen pumps after the winter. Most will show up at the shop from late March to early May when they get them out of the garage for the first time, and then they have a water leak.

I hope I picked the correct model number since I am just guessing which one of the 5 models of mower you may have.

Item 1 is part number 751-12089-51 or 751-12089-45 depending on length
It is a simple HOSE. Go to a Garage or Parts store and buy a comparable one!!!!

If all else fails it might be possible to take the old one to a hardware store. Maybe Ace or True Value, etc. Or Lowes, Home Depot, Tractor Supply. Some of these places carry rubber hose they will cut to length you need. The inside diameter is the most important thing. Just an idea if all else fails.

If 3\16" is the ID, just buy locally at auto parts, get fuel acceptable hose. Can be thin wall. If the engine doesn't run with no hose, I would try attaching a short length to the air cleaner and plug it. May be causing vacuum leak. If still doesn't run, try opening the gas cap. This is for test only, you should replace the hose.

#66

E

Enosgl

Just for giggles, have you tried running it without the gas cap? My thought is it is non vented and is depending on a vacuum from the intake to open a valve to vent the tank. With no tank venting, it would run for a short period then die. I have seen the same thing on pre epa units when their vented had cap plugs.

That is simply a gas vapor vent for EPA mandated emissions control. It has nothing to do with engine starting or running. You have a plugged carburetor, failed fuel pump, plugged fuel line from tank to carburetor, plugged gas filter, and/or old gas.

Both 689-00685 and 689-00686 assemblies have been NLA since at least August 2024.

Use the following parts listed in notes and assemble as LH or RH as needed.

Are these updated brackets? The ones I currently have are left and right hand side dependent. The ones being suggested seem to be identical on each side.

All you ever need to do to find the right parts for your mower or give the right information is to take a picture of the white sticker which is usually underneath or right to the rear of the seat.
The two most important things on that are the model number and the serial number.
Now for engine parts you need the sticker on the side of the engine which will have model and serial number and spec.

OK, Thanks.
I haven't read this entire thread but it sounds like you're talking about the evap hose that the wonderful EPA mandated a few years ago which is just a waste of time and money but anyways it goes from the top of the tank and finagles its way to the carburetor and there is a small port on the intake it sticks on too so it can take the fumes from the gas tank and burn them through the engine.
This can be replaced with any type of small rubber line that fits due to the inside diameter.
Regardless of what the part they sell you is which it probably isn't anyways, you don't need fuel vapor hose like you do for fuel line. You could use windshield washer tubing or any type of flexible rubber tubing that would fit onto the connections for this.
I believe the part that sticks in the top of the tank has a fitting on it so you can reuse that part and just take the fitting off otherwise hopefully there's enough good rubber just coming out of the tank that you can cut it off and use a plastic Barbie connector which you can easily pick up at any auto parts store or hardware store and connect your new piece to the peace coming out of the tank.
It's irrelevant as far as running etc though other than it could cause a slight vacuum leak but this could easily be remedied by taking the hose off of the intake and putting a rubber vacuum cap plug on.
