Hello all,

I just purchased my first riding mower, a Bolens rear engine riding mower with a 28" cut. It is in very good shape for the price I paid but the 8 horse Briggs smokes pretty heavy. I did some calling around today and found that this particular engine doesn't have a set "rebuild kit" avaliable. Instead you have to purchase what you need seperately. Which all together can cost up to $120 or double what I paid for the mower. Would I just be better off to wait and see if I can find a rebuilt 8 horse on CL or maybe even a local garage sale or could I upgrade to a 10 horse Briggs if I found one? I only ask since I have found them to be readily avaliable and inexpensive in my area. Any thoughs or ideas are welcome and thanks for reading.

Sincerely,

Gary

Hi Gary, and WELCOME to LMF...

Measure what you have, crank shaft size &length and other mountings... Then as you come across other engines you will know what you'll need to have an easy engine exchange... :smile:KennyV
