I've got a 21HP Intek engine and several quarts and a gallon of straight 30 weight engine oil.

Is it OK to use straight 30 weight engine oil instead of 10W30? I'd like to get rid of this oil.

I don't plan on mowing in freezing weather.

There is a temperature chart in your owners manual.
Low viscosity multigrade was introduced to use up the large amount of light lubricating oils that were not economic to convert to petrol.
Latter in the piece they became manditory so engines would turn over very quickly when cold so start easier thus make the EPA start up emission regulations
Oil companies went on with all sorts of marketing BS about how fast the thin oil will get to the moving parts to increase the wear protection of your engine.
It is all rubbish unless you only use the engine once every 2 years, but it does make good TV.
SO strait 30 will be fine.
If it gets really cold, give the engine 5 to 10 minutes to warm the oil before you start to mow.
One of the reason why Honda engine always start so easy, is the multi grade oil which has a lot less resistance so the motor spins faster at start up.
I go to 5w40 in a lot of the engines my elderly customers use when they tell me they re having troubles starting them

Nothing wrong with SAE 30. I use it all the time when I service a mowers in my shop unless the customer calls for something else. I would want to use the SAE 30 over the non-detergent 30. I have used the non-detergent 30 in my camp mow but it gets run a very few hours between oil changes.
