I just bought a used snapper 1433 and it was doing great when the engine suddenly cut out. The oil looks low and I would like to put some oil in it, but can't figure out how. I don't have a manual. Hopefully someone can help.

thanks

Can you post a pic of the engine?

Ok next to the muffler Is the oil dip stick turn left to remove. If oil is low add some down the dip stick hole.

Is black and looks like a big coke bottle cap.

How did the oil "Look" low? If you didn't use the dipstick?

OK, so now I added oil and the engine still won't start. It won't turn over. It's a bit frustrating. Any ideas why the engine would suddenly quit other than the oil is low?

I didn't say that I didn't use the dipstick or that I didn't know where that was... I just didn't know that the place to add the oil was one and the same as the location of the dipstick... That's why I said I was a novice.

If you can't get it to move when you pull start it their is a good chance the engine seized when it got low on oil, you can try to take spark plug out, the engine should spin free with no plug if it wont your engine might be toast..

I tried earlier to pull start it and the cord wouldn't pull. I hope the engine isn't toast, I bought it from a place that repairs mowers and they have a great reputation. So, I assumed when they said the mower was ready to go that it had oil in it. When I pulled out the dipstick the oil was dark and it was in the add area on the dip stick.

Are there any other things that could cause the pull cord not to work?

Thanks

When you said oil was low how much did it show on dipstick ?
Also when you try to start with electric starter can you hear the starter try to engage (like a bang sound) but wont turn over engine ?
And third if you just bought it I would talk to them about it.

I agree I should talk to the business from which I bought it. It was supposed to be ready to go. However, if it was something simple to correct, I wanted to see if I could correct it myself, I didn't want to go through the hassle of finding a way to get this mower back out to them (an hour drive and a friend hauled it for me).

It was in the add oil range and it was dark colored. Yes, I could hear the starter trying to engage but engine would not turn over.
