Hi All,

New to this forum from the great Bluegrass state.

Looking to buy a new riding mower and am trying to decide between a cub cadet xt2 lx46 with the fabricated deck and a husqvarna yt46 LS. And having said that, since I am a big Kubota fan, there is always the possibility of a Kubota t series, but they are double the price.

I have a few acres that need to be cut. The terrain is not very even and it is a pain to maneuver my tractor and Bush hog through it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and I am looking forward to being a part.

With today's lawn tractor market, you must remember one thing, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!! This is what I have told customers for the last 2 years. I can't recommend any tractor under $2000 any more. Just feel that the quality of these units is so bad, I'm not going to put one above the other. You are going to have to be very diligent in your research, and please do not look at the price until you are down to 2-3 units. You will get many answers on this forum, because everyone has their favorite, but you are going to see what matches your situation the best. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, GOOD LUCK.

Both mowers are in my opinion the best in this price range.

If I was put on the spot and had to pick one it would be the cub cadet.

Sit on them both and get the one that feels right.

You are considering one from each of the manufacturers of mowers, so just go look at them, sit on it, and decide what will fit you the best. MTD, Husqvarna, and Kubota make about 99% of the mowers now.

Yeah. I guess I was just looking for some personal stories and reasons to choose one over another.

I bought my tractor by sitting on it but I was familiar with the brand. I know very little about husqvarna and cub cadet.

Last new mower I got was a cub cadet.
Used it for a year. Put over 600 hours on it.
Sold it first day I put it up for sale. For more then half of new price.

Was I very good mower.
Changed the deck belt 3 times. I cut grass over 2 feet tall with it.
Never has to change the drive belt.
After 600 hard hours it still ran and cut like it did the first day.

Sold it because I only use mowers for a year.

Will go with cub cadet again this year.

Wow. That's quite a story! I like that kind of feedback.

Which cub cadet mower do you have?

I had the ltx1040
Cheaper then what you are looking at.

I got for my wife. But liked how good it did in the tall grass. I used it for work.

I looked at the lx46 the other day. Just kinda walked around it and looked.

Out of all the riding mowers I have or have had cub cadet gives the best cut.

As odd as this sounds, I'm not super interested in how it cuts. I'm more interested in how tough it is.

My house sits in the middle of a three acre field that up until last year was just a field. I am in the process of transitioning it into a real lawn. Until that happens I just need something that I can maneuver more easily.

Cub used to be mainly commercial and made excellent mowers that you could just not kill.
They were made by International tractor as if they were tractors.
When Inter got gobbled up a while back, Cub ws set adrift , went full on domestic and then found out that domestic customers could not recognise a quality mower if they fell over it.
Under MTD they have now found their way and it looks like MTD is again pointing them commercial.

I have a lot of Cubs in my run most a 2000 series so are very old.
The only problems they have as a brand is poor cooling when used for hours continuously .
All of them are on farms, all do big acres of very rough ground.
Now what was is not a guarantee of what will be but if MTD is trying to revive Cub as a full on commercial mower then they will be building them for longevity.

If you are worried about toughness, then you will have to go with the Kubota. Rough terrain will kill the Husky and Cub in short order. Neither one will last until you have a proper lawn in.

And that is the part that worries me the most. A lot of it is smooth, but some parts still want to be a field.

I guess I have to get the box blade out but then the tractor wheels tear up everything else. Lol.

The landlord mows most of his 100 acres of pasture with two 2000 series cubs.
A this time of year it is all Tussock grass and the ground itself used to be horticulture so is drainage ditches every where.
I do a lot of the nastier bits with the up front slasher on my 8 Hp rover ( local OZ made ).
2000 series Cubs seem to be readily available on evilbay & Craigs list very cheap they go for $1000 to $ 2000 down here.
If it is sill available Rosey65 here has a Simplicity with an up front on it he is thinking of selling, exactly what you want.
There are some pictures of it on this thread http://www.lawnmowerforum.com/build-yourself/28928-home-made-heavy-weed-brush-cutter-3.html

Are the 2000 series cubs the equivalent of the xt2 series cubs that are new this year?

Are the 2000 series cubs the same as the xt2 from this year?

We won't see the new model for a few seasons.
Generally they get released in the east, travel across to the west then the unsold get shoved on a boat and send down here.
We have no dedicated Cub dealers within 500 miles of my workshop so it might be a while before I can make comparisons.
The 2000 series was all very heavy gauge steel with a horizontal engine ( 3 x strength & quality of a vert engine ), shaft drive to the box & a long deck drive belt that dose a 90 deg bend to change directions.

That sounds very much like their xt3 series. They are however quite bump in price and do not come with a cutting deck.

Don't know.

The local Cub dealer closed down aparently in the late 90's which was before my time here.
Whoever has the wholesale MTD franchise down here is milking it for all it is worth and as such not much MTD sold any more and no Cubs
I see a few 100 series that have gotten up here on the 2nd hand market but nothing new. Mostly the old 2000 series that have been on sold by commercial lawn cutters as the shops do not do trade ins.
Most of the new machines are Huskys sold by a major mower chain ( who dropped MTD ), Deers sold by the dedicated JD dealers or Craftsmen/ McCullochs sold by the big box stores.
Commercials are mostly new Torros or old Deers & Danes .
