Hello everybody. I just decided that I want to fix an old lawnmower that my dad bought for $1 about 10 years ago. He bought it from my grampa who had it since it was new. It burned oil pretty bad when my dad got it, so he didn't use it long. It has been sitting beside the house for about 6 or 7 years now. He said I could do whatever I want with it. I figured that I would rebuild the engine, do a pulley swap and some other mods and make a racing mower out of it. I started looking at it today and couldn't find out what brand it is. It has a 12hp Briggs motor. I found that it is a 1990 model. Has a 40" deck. I took a few pics of it. I need help determining what brand and model it is.

Definitely made by Murray, as I have a model similar as you can see in my avatar. Yours is probably there Pro series. Look at the similarity between the models in the pictures I attached below and your model.
In your last picture is the identification tag which should list the manufactuer, model and serial number. It is located in the rear just above the towing hole. It should say that it was assembled in Lawrenceburg, Tennesee. Hope this helps.

As a sidenote, last I heard Murray was purchased and is now owned by Briggs and Stratton. I believe they are no longer being made or in business at this time. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

The brute mowers uses the Murray design Briggs and stratton produces those and MTD is currently producing Murray equipment but it's just a red mtd with Murray stickers on it.
