Hi, I am brand new to Lawn Mower Forum. My name is Ernie. I have for the last year or so been buying and fixing up broken riding mowers and then reselling them. I have many brands of mowers. I do have a guestion, does anyone know what size engine can be put in a JD 316? It has a Kohler in it now. I have a nice 18 HP twin -v Briggs I would like to put in, but I am not sure if it would fit looking at the low engine mount.

Hello Ernie & WELCOME to LMF...

I 'thought' the 316 had the same engine as the 318... 2 cylinder Onan ....
If you have the tractor & engine nearby, a few measurements should determine if the Briggs will fit...

Hi Kenny, Mine has a 16 HP single cylinder. The old engine sets down between the frame and I don't think the twin v will fit down in there. Thanks Ernie
