This would come down to who has the best salesman or what lawn-care professional you happen to ask owns.

I think the best salesmen are the guys using the mowers professionally day in day out. I think there input can be very valuable, more so than some sales person in a shop that doesn't have a clue about what works and is the most reliable in the field and what isn't or doesn't. JMO

I don't know what its like where you live but around here the mowers professionally use a lot of different brands. The most popular being Ferris and John Deere because they have the biggest dealers. We have lost all our Toro dealers which was also very popular at one time. They don't use the Cubs for some reason?

I love my Ferris. Such a nice machine.

But, I don't know what to say about the cut. It stripes pretty good, but the cut is weird. On some yards, if the grass is higher than the ground and I bend down to be at the same level as the lawn, I can see uncut spots. I don't know if this is normal or not. It's been like that since I have it. I now have 50 hours on it. Apart from that, it doesn't clump much unless the grass is very long, thick and wet. I am very impressed with that. The deck itself doesn't clog too much either.

Well I guess I'm lucky cause I have about every type of mower dealer in the world within about 60 miles of me. Gravely, Exmark/Toro, Scag, Hustler, Cub Cadet, and Yazoo Kees and even a Ferris dealer. Home Depot and Lowes sell all the residential mowers like Junk Deere, Simplicity, Ariens,Troy-Bilt, Husqvarna, Cub Cadet and the Hustler Residential Raptor and Tractor Supply sells Husky and Cub Cadet. If you really want cheap the Badcock Furniture stores sell Poulan Tractors

The John Deere dealers that are reasonably close don't even carry lawn mowers, just farm equipment and reel type mowers. The largest percentage of lawn- care businesses here I'd say 90% are running Exmark/Toro, Hustler or Scag.

Pretty much the same here. Just try some out and get the one that best suits you.

Ferris is #2 on the market by the way. The reason why Exmark/Toro is #1 is because they are the same company basically. Not wanting to create a flame war here, but I want to show that Ferris is strong out there. Good machines and very good customer service.

60 miles now in my math that is a 120 mile trip, I don't call that lucky. Way too far if I need parts now. You will spend a haft of a day just running for parts. Now what would my mark up have to be to the customer for them type of parts. Yes I have done this type of trip but I do let the customer know this and charge accordantly. When I posted as to local dealers I am thinking LESS then 10 miles. As a customer buying a mower they might want to give this a thought because they will need repairs someday.
