Hello all,

Since 3 weeks I've been searching to find out what brand this lawnmower is. All i can find is the following:

AYP (American Yard Products);
Model: N4500
Serie:011993S 001260
MFG. ID Number: OB1542A

On the side it says 'NAJA' with a snake next to it...

The problem is that i can't find anywhere what the specs are and i really need to find a drive belt for the blades. The engine runs perfectly but the blades won't turn, as the drive belt is completely worn.

If anyone could help me, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks in advance and greets from Belgium.

Welcome to LMF...greets to you from us. If you do indeed have the drive belt, although it is worn, any decent auto parts store or farm supply should be able to compare it with their stock of new belts and most likley they will have a comparable sized replacement. At the very least, they should be able to tell you the measurements of your worn belt which will expedite your getting a replacement online, or elsewhere. The belts usually are NOT produced by the company that makes the power equipment. Hope this helps.

You may find a number on the belt that will halp you replace it.

Problem is they gave me already 4 times the wrong belt. Or it's too long or not long enough and the last time a piece broke of because of that. So I was hoping if someone could give me any info on where to find an owners manual. As the guy bought it second handed, we have no papers whatsoever.

Tnx already for the fast replies!

If you took the old belt in and they gave you the wrong one 4 times --- they are idiots, OR not honest and ethical  l. Take the old belt somewhere else.

Welcome from the LMF!!!

Noun 1. Naja naja - a cobra of tropical Africa and Asia Indian cobra genus

So, you have a Cobra. It got a 427 in it?

Also, in German, I see it means 'maybe'......as in "maybe this belt will work"?

No way it's a 427, according to Google, Naja never put anything bigger than a 260 or 289 small block in the American Yard Products chassis...so he doesn't have a Cobra, a garden snake maybe....

It's got a 15HP V-Twin OHV Vanguard engine. Does anyone know where I could find an assembly design for the belt drive? I seriously start to think somethings wrong with the drive system. I don't want to start disassembly without having a design telling me where goes what.

@KennyV: tnx a lot for the link!

Welcome to the forum, utterdown. As a cyclist and pro cycling fan I appreciate you position in the center of the world for most matters related to cycling. I've toured your country several times by bike -- mostly in Flanders.

Do you think the mower might be assembled improperly? I would be nice to get a manual for the engine. If there is a model number on the engine that would help.

It's a good idea to take photos before you disassemble a machine like that for the first time. If you have any pictures, please post them here -- somebody might be able to figure out if there is an assembly problem.
