Mower electric clutch issue

Have Craftsman, 18HP, 46 inch deck. While mowing, something happened to electric clutch. It sheared the 7/16" bolt off in crankshaft, allowing clutch to drop and get demolished by mower blades. Ever hear of that happening before? I'd like to know what might have caused it so when I get another clutch it doesn't mess that up. Thanks

sorry to hear about your bad luck...
It's hard to say what actually caused it to fail... BUT more bolts fail from over tightening than any other cause... :smile:KennyV
