MOUNTING BOLT PATTERNS AND OUTPUT SHAFT DIMENSIONS

I am working to design a contraption that can use different size and horsepower rated vertical shaft air cooled engines, from 3 to 27hp. Are holes at the bottom of the engine for the mounting bolts all the same, or do they vary according to the size of the engine? Also, are the dimensions of the output shaft for each engine all the same or do they vary?

Thank you.

They do vary depending on the manufacture and engine size on mounting patterns.

As for crankshafts diameters can vary 3/4" to 1-1/8" and they can also be metric. Lengths also vary.

Basically it is not possible to make a one size fit all design which why it is so important to know the engine's specs of both the old and new ones as to match things up. Sometime we fudging on mounting patterns or shorten a crankshaft. There is an old saying when doin

shafts can also be straight or taper shaft. If you make a contraption you will need to either spec a specific engine, or drill holes for multile engine configurations, and provide adapters - meaning that the contraption will need an adapter between the engine and transmission or pulley/belt.

Thank you for the responses to my 3/17/26 post. I now understand that the dimensions for the mounting bolts and output shaft can vary according to the size of the engine and according to the manufacturer.

A few more basic questions:
1) How far can a small, air-cooled, 4 stroke, vertical shaft engine be tilted during operation before that engine starts experiencing lubrication problems?
2) If this contraption that I am trying to design is operating outdoors, what will happen if the engine is rained on or, if it is operating in a boat and the engine is hit by a large wave of cold water? I am trying to figure out whether I will have to also design a hood or cowling.

Yes, I am a "newbie" and obviously not a small engine mechanic, so I appreciate being allowed to post these questions.
