What features and options have you found to be most valuable on your mower?

Please explain:

1) Your mower type: L&G tractor, walk-behind (push or self propelled), ZTR, or other.
2) Most valuable features or options in your opinion and why.
3) Optional: Any comparable features in the same product segment.

Thanks for your insight!

Currently have a lawn tractor (getting rid of) and a garden tractor (keeping cuz it has rear bagger) but are shopping for:
1. New ZTR - 52" or larger deck - maintainable hydro's - mulching - for mowing only
2. Used but newer garden tractor with front mounted snowblower - for snowblowing and pulling ground engaging equipment (roller, aerator, etc.) - must have hyd. attachment lift

Likes/must haves:

1. Gator blades
2. Hydro attachment left
3. Power steering (once you've had this you'll wonder why you waited so long)
4. Kawasaki or Kubota diesel engine (sorry...newer B&S & Kohler stuff is junk)
5. Suspension seat on ZTR (for my rough/bumpy lawn)
6.. Hydro's that can be maintained (i.e. change fluid and filter)
7. A GOOD dealer!

Honda HRX217HYA.

What I love about this mower is the ability to cut grass when it is still wet with dew. Considering that is when I do a lot of my mowing. Also the Roto-Stop in the fall when I am bagging leaves.

I know I'm going against the grain on this forum, but I don't use my zero turn enough to say thats the machine I use to cut my grass. 2009 with like 127 hours that I put on it. The people on my cutting crew have put more hours on it then me. The machine I use the most is a GT. All attachments are shaft drive & hydro lift, front, mid, rear PTO, gear transaxle, 8 speed= 4hi, 4lo. I use the 50" hydro lift deck the most, cuts 4 acres per week, next would be front 38" & 48" snow blowers, throws snow 50+ feet, 48" dozer/snow blade. I have other attachments but don't use them a lot, 31" rear tiller, front rotary plow/ditcher/unicorn log splitter, 40" deck and some other things I can't remember now. I guess I old school but a zero turn can't fill all my needs like my GT does. "But thats just me"

Features and options are what you buy on a car or truck, on a lawn mower there a waste of money and about useless especially for a homeowner who only uses his mower once a week. I mean really I'm not driving a lawn mower across the country, I'm mowing yards. All Features and options do for a lawnmower is drive up the price.

I guess everyone has their own opinion of what features and options are. If someone buys a plain jane GT or zero turn, that will limit the job that it can do, just cut grass once a week, but if the machine is optioned out with more features, the machine can be used to do more then cut grass once a week,. Now the machine can so used to haul trailers, till the garden, make a ditch to drain water off a low spot, move snow by (blower or blade), bore holes in the ground to plant trees, power a water pump via PTO, split wood via PTO, etc. Now you are using your machine for more then just cutting grass once a week, you are using it all most every day. Now it you have 1/2 acre lot, yes you will probably just use it for just cutting grass and maybe moving snow. It all depends on which machine you buy and what you plan on doing with your machine, just cut grass or do a lot more then just cut grass. "But thats just me"

I have a ZT.

Most valuable feature is it's ease of operation, i.e., I don't have to muscle a steering wheel. Maneuvering a ZT is sooooooo much easier than wrasslin a steering wheel, especially valued as I have a re-injured left shoulder.

Most valuable option is the PTO to engage the blades. My old Garden Tractor required much muscle to engage the blades. The PTO is a very easy pull up of a big button and the blades are engaged. Very efficient.

I'm old as dirt and am not sure what "X2 buddy" means. If it's good, thanks, but if it's not good, right back at you. I'm not trying to start nothing. "But thats just me"

Means he agrees.

Toro proline 32", blade stop feature is nice for moving mower over bark, gravel, asphault without straining your back.

I think the most important features are the one that make maintaing and servicing the machine easier with I had a cup holder on my proline :p

Hustler Super Z zero turn 72" deck.

Build quality is excellent and heavy duty.
Great cut quality and mowing speed .
Flex forks and suspension seat greatly improve the ride.
The 35 HP Kawaski has very good power (a bit hard on gas though)
Transmissions have hot oil shuttle with an external hydraulic cooling radiator an 8" fan and large oil reservoir.
