I'm trying a new to me Linux - Debian 12.8 w/ XFCE. Faster & more stable than Ubuntu 24.04.1 (Ubuntu is based on Debian). The distro might not have all the pkgs you need but fairly easy to find/install. Eg: I had to add 2 pkgs to mount my Moto Edge phone for file transfer.

30 gb minimum Hard Disk Drive space for Operating System. I put the OS on it's own Solid State Drive - much faster than older platter-wand mechanical HDDs. Installation USB stick - probably fit on 1 gb stick. 120gb SSDs are ~$15 these days.

Good thing I asked I'm down to 11 GB here.

Well....30 gb is minimum for OS & programs that I want. Debian WILL install w/ only 1 gb free space. You could have a dual boot system - choose Windoze or Linux from boot loader. I've had errors with that and don't trust it for important stuff. Is this a laptop w/ only 1 HDD slot?

Don't know if I have a space in the mini tower for a slave drive.

Windoz 11 won't work on my 7 year old Toshiba PC, which came with Win 8hate, which I manually updated to Windozed 10. Remember how much everyone hated 8? So I got 7 years of support out of a $700.00 machine.

In 2020 My wife gave me a hardened water resistant Asus Chromebook, to use for working outside... in the shop, on the boats, and just for fun. Google claims it will support it until June 2029. It works great. I use it far more often that the more expensive, larger Toshiba. It cost $500.00. When it was partially crushed Asus mail order repaired it for $120. It runs everything I use on the PC, including MS Office and apps work just fine.

7 years of support for a $700 MS Windows Toshiba PC for Royal.
9 years from a $500 Chrome computer.
Can you guess which company is going to get my money next time?
Yes i see that
