Alright, I want to thank you guys for the information you supplied. As far as I can tell, it has only one spring which is missing In the attached carb breakdown # 232A, but it doesn't show where to attach the spring. I also feel that there should be some sort of spring near the bottom of the tank where the linkage runs down to near the bottom of the engine block. I'm definitely not a small engine repair guy. attached is the schematic showing a spring near the top. In the picture of the tank I think a spring needs to be at the bottom somewhere but not sure.
232A is not used on your type no.

That lower spring is the governor spring. Without the engine only idles.

PN has not been superseded

The long loop end goes to the governor arm.

Mike, if you would take a little more time and look closely at the pictures in Sec. 4 Page 12-13 and 16 you would see where the spring is attached. The diagram doesn’t contain the spring you need, and only an experienced tech would know how these governor systems work. You engone was built in 1996. You are correct that it is attached near the bottom, Spring part number is 692208, superseded to 796260. It goes between the governor control arm on the engine and speed control on the tank bracket.
Rivets are we looking at the same IPL? I don't see type 0146 listed as one of the other governor springs.

You are correct, 0146-01 is not listed anywhere. I’m going by my experience, as I’ve seen this engine and setup on too many snowblower units. I can’t remember seeing the other two spring styles used between the speed control and governor. They are normally used around the carb. Setups on blowers and chippers are very similar, but I may be wrong, it has happened a couple of times, but without getting my hands on the unit it’s the best I can do.

See this is where and why we need the complete equipment and/or engine info. All I see down here is the Tillers and Chipper/Shredders.

Just trying to guess can get anybody in trouble. This is something I learned since started repairing equipment for others in 1979. It was all kinds office equipment at first then forms handling and financial equipment and now small engines. So many different kinds and models that IPLs became a way of doing my job.

The hardest thing now is all the dumped Chinese equipment that no IPLs and very in the line of replacement parts.

I gave the model, type and code. Plus pictures whats else could I possibly have given you??? Plus I guess none of the pictures of the carb tank and linkage couldn't help you either?

I hate guessing also, but because I am no longer able to open the old Briggs parts book, this is the best I can do. Check Sec 5 page 25 fig 57-58 In the manual I posted. Shows location only, but not your exact engine.
