Good Day to all.

I have an LX460 that just loves to shred belts. I have gone thru 1 OEM belt in a matter of hours. Bought a new belt engage cable and a green power belt it lasted maybe 2 days, Bought a new power belt checked all the pulleys and spindle assemblies, No problems found. I do think the deck has been worked on as I found a spacer under one of the idler pullies. I did notice one of the pullies was low and belt was running at the top of the pulley. This belt lasted all of 2 hours. Any suggestions? Does anyone have the specs for pulley height and alignment for the PTO belt?

Thank You all or your help.

Thank You for your reply,

Here are the numbers that I have:

If this does not help, please guide me as to where to look for any other numbers.

Thank You

Which pulley has a washer under to change the height of the pulley? That could be a factor, or wrong pulley was installed.
Here is a diagram of the deck components for that model number:

Is the belt actually shredded? If so it is rubbing something it shouldn't. Is it melting and smell burnt rubber? If so idleror spindle is binding and sropping or belt rubbing someting it shouldn't. One edge of belt chewed up? Idler out of alignment from bad bearings or worn arm pivots.

The inboard idler pulley had the spacer in it. The outboard idler pulley looked like the belt had been riding on the top side of the groove. I added a spacer to the outboard pulley to try to move the belt lower in the pulley surface. Is there a measurement for the pulley heights, as the deck has been rebuilt and I wonder if the double pulley spindle is correct? Should the middle of all three pulleys be level?

After spacing the idler pulleys to obtain as level as I could get, it tore up a $50 belt in about an hour.

Thank You for all your help.

Thank You for your input. I have had both failures over the past month. I have checked for bound spindles on the blade and idler pulleys and have found none. Originally on the PTO belt the pulleys were not at the same height. I got them as close as I could but still chewed up a belt in about 1 hr.

Thank You for your help.

Just for clarification, the problem is with the upper belt or the lower belt?

Do any of the spindle look tilted out of place from hitting something hard before this problem began? Where any spindles replaced?

Is a pulley upside down?

Thank you for your response. It is the upper belt. I see no real damage. The deck has been rebuilt, and blade spindles were replaced. The Idler pulleys don't look to be upside down. They are both a flat surface pulley. Which I find unusual since the V side of the belt rides on one of them. I have also wondered if the double pulley spindle is not correct, with the top pulley being too high. That was why I was asking about pulley heights. I am considering replacing both idler pulleys. I just don't want to go through multiple belts testing my theories. LOL

Thank you for all your help
