Yes! And if the mowers you and I use can last for us, it would be a good investment for someone mowing one yard a week.

Hello, guys! I'm a fresh here. I've just moved into a house for the first time. Previously, in my country (I'm not from USA), I haven't use a lawn mover. Can I show you a review and ask for a piece of advice, please?

Hi All,

Had a look around for a review of Hyundai HYM51SP but couldn't find one in the forum - apologies if this has been asked already. I have 2 acres to keep on top of and this review recommends the Hyundai (https://homepowertech.co.uk/best-lawnmowers/) but I've seen a few concerns about it clogging up on Amazon and wondered if I should spend a bit extra and get something more durable like the latest Izy? Both seem to be reliable but I don't want to buy cheap and buy twice in a year or two!

Thanks in advance,
DT

BadBoy

Great thread!!

Be it known. I own a BadBoy, Elite, 54" Welded Steel Deck, and Kawasaki Powered. The Mower is a 2014 Model, with 146 hours. The Drive Belt came off of the pulleys, and the mower stopped moving. I do my own repairs, so I ordered all the stuff from, BadBoy ie: New Drive Belt, 2- New Hydro Filters, 1- New Engine Filter, 3 HD Mowing Blades (3rd set) and 1 gallon of BadBoy Hydro fluid. I have been at removing the old drive belt, for over a week, and it's still on the mower as of today. There is an Idler, under the mower, that has to at least be loosened to remove the drive belt, over the top of the idler pulley. I've already had to loosen both Hydro drives, to remove the VERY contrary drive belt. Non the less. I will never again attempt a drive belt on a BadBoy, when I finally get this one replaced. I've changed several drive belts, in a fraction of the time, and didn't have to almost disassemble the mower to do so. Trust me, it is extremely involved / difficult, to replace. Near everything on the bottom of the mower, has to be removed. If you lean toward a BadBoy, first, look the machine over, closely! Keep in mind, how difficult the drive belt is to change. And at such low hours. I owned a Gravely ZT160 a few years ago, at 400 hours, the mower had only had oil changes, greased and fuel, not even the blades sharpened. I should not have let the price difference sway me to a BadBoy this time. I should have gone back to a Gravely. Excuse the length, but need to pass this info along. Thanks!

It only took me 3 weeks to change out the drive belt on the BadBoy (I gave it a new name, that I won't mention). It took two people, and basically, everything on the bottom of the mower, had to be removed, or loosened a great amount, then pried down on to remove the old belt and install the new. It mows good again. Anyone interested in buying it, it's for sale, just reply to this thread. :confused2::cool:

Good to know I was looking at the same mower but took them off the list when I found out thier marketing gimmick. I figured there was more issues that I wouldn't find out till its was to late.

I have a 2009 Bad Boy ZT, changing the pump belt is my least enjoyable maintenance task. Having said that, it consists of
- letting the tension off the blade belt
- removing the PTO clutch cable
- removing the nut from the pump belt tensioner
- loosening the lot of the pump belt idler to the point where the belt can slide under it

Never had to touch the hydrostatic drives. My issue with our model is documentation. Part number for spindle yields a spindle that sits ½” lower than other two spindles. Had to get a dealer to measure several different part numbers to find one that matched. Pump belt isn’t listed in parts book, bad boys on line parts lookup yielded several belts. Dealer said is was something like 66 ¼”, got that belt, seems too long, tensioner has to be wound down tight to even begin to tension it.

I abuse the mower cutting overgrown fields, it keeps on ticking. Did have the Koehler engine loose power, turns out only 1 cylinder was firing. Stud that supports the rocker arm in the head had backed out, rocker arm had slid off to one side. Straightened out the bent pushrod, tightened down the stud and put it back together - runs just fine.

Just bought an eXmark radius to replace it.

What do you guys think of using a reel mower?

I read this guide and it looks promising.

I had a problem similar to SHB's or Badboy's with the main drive belt to those two hydrostatic gears (drives) coming off of the pulleys. My mower is a Gravely ZT 24 HP 50" deck and Kohler twin-V engine. I'm just happily zooming around the yard mowing and suddenly the power to the wheels just "goes away" and I'm sitting there with the engine still running but I'm goin' nowhere. Turns out that three of the bolts holding the hydro gear bodies (and, hence, also the big drive wheels) fell out over time and the large drive wheels splayed out looking like those wheels on Matchbox cars. It caused me to panic a little and was disheartening as it appeared like the drive wheels would just peel off of the mower chasis. Two of the bolts were missing at one end of what is called the "weldment, transaxle support" which looks like a structural angle with two rectangular plates capping the ends. A third bolt was missing where one of the transaxle bodies (hydro gears) bolts into the deck of the chasis.

Ironically, this is the configuration you need to purposely create to replace the main drive belt. Indeed, to get the old belt off which, by the way, was severely torn where it fought with the chasis and hydro pulley when the last of those three bolts was lost, this "loosey goosey" condition was needed. To get a new belt on, I had to additionally loosen 4 of the bolts that connect the hydro (transaxle) bodies to the big drive wheel supports. Clearance between transaxle pulley and the chasis was excrutiatingly tight, expecially on the driver's side (left) if the mower were a car. I got the new belt on by dropping the blade PTO belt down off its rear pulley and disconnecting the wiring leading to the electric clutch (that big bulbous thing that hangs under the engine and stops the mower blades from turning). Some say they even remove the clutch to provide more wiggle room when replacing the main drive belt. As it is, I ended up "pinching" the new belt between pulley and chasis on the left (driver's side) by pushing with a slat or stick of wood until the belt popped down and into its V-channel on the pulley.

And the fun did not stop there. I had no assistant to pull back the idler or tension pulley to extend its spring until the new drive belt would engage or slip over it. I used a nylon rope about 3/8 diameter attached to the end of the "swivel arm" that holds the tension pulley to create spring tension. I tied the rope off at the back of the chasis until the belt slipped on at which point I could slowly let the tension pulley ease back to normal tension, creating needed belt tension.
