Lawnboy Duraforce Commercial Surging

Hello,

Model 10247 surges continuously. Starts on one pull. I was going to pull the carb and clean it without parts in hand, but saw a replacement carb for this model is around $20 on Amazon.

I’m wondering if these cheap carbs work ok?

Now I’m thinking replace with the cheap carb, then I can rebuild the original over winter. Then swap back or keep the original as a spare.

I only run it 10 to 20 minutes a week for trimming.

Up to you but I would just replaced the carb and be done with it. Did this twice in the last month. Friend had an expensive Honda that would start and die right away. I had an old Craftsman power washer doing the same thing.

As posted above I got cheap $20 chinese carbs and installed them. Both machines started on the first or second pull and are running fine. No adjustments needed.

I have not had a lot of luck going thru these cheap little carbs. For $20 it's just NOT worth it!
Pull your old one and find the number then do some searches on that. Hundreds of variations on Ebay and Amazon.

Thanks Clubarith. I think I’ll stick the cheap carb on and then I can do a good job on the original carb. I’m good at mechanical and electrical, I suck at being hurried.

I’ve got a couple other Lawnboys, both not running. I’ve got a coil for the nicer one. So hopefully I get that one running tomorrow. Big commercial one takes me a lot less time to trim with and will mow down anything, so I’ll get that one going too.
 
I bought one of these carbs for my Troy bilt horse tiller because my old carb was so badly corroded and couldn't find a new one for less than $100.00.
I couldn't get it to run correctly, so I took the old carb and disassembled it (wasn't much left) cleaned and reassembled and engine ran perfect.
Carbs are very basic, but think about what you are getting for twenty dollars.
I had my tiller covered, but a storm blew off the cover and I didn't know it. I keep it indoors now.
 
Every durforce I ever had, I swapped out the pilot jet with a Briggs & Stratton pilot jet no. 801308. The diameter is slightly larger than the stock one.
The pilot jet is on the side of the carb under a black sticker. It helps the engine run a little richer. I have varied success with the cheap carbs. They come already assembled.
OEM lawn boy dura force carbs you have to assemble them yourself. But thats not hard after you have messed with lawn boys for awhile.
