Now that we got our first frost I'm getting ready for the ladybugs to start swarming. They seem to hone in on white because they fly to my white patiodoors and white barn garage door by the thousands. This species was imported from Europe I believe to control a pest back east but are a pest to me because they have a way of finding a way into my house. When you kill them they have an unpleasant odor.any body else have a problem with them? russ

We get ladybugs and cluster flies in the southern and western windows of our house. In the shed, which is unheated, we rarely get ladybugs, but those windows are always full of house flies.

Been fighting them for years. They were imported from Asia by the Fed Dept. of Agriculture to control aphids. The unintended consequences is that they Winter hibernate in warm places like homes. They come in October and leave (except for the dead ones) in April. Best way to control them is to seal your house (easier said than done) then vacuum the ones that get in. There are lady bugs traps you can use but they aren't very effective.

I am amazed to read about biting lady bugs (or ladybirds as we know them). It's interesting how the same thing can be fine in one country and not another. Mozzies are the same I think, some carrying disease and some not. I would have a hard time killing a ladybug.
