Thank you all for the quick replies and good info. This engine is a leaker,smoker,oil burner, and fouls one plug. Not sure where it's leaking from or what's causing the smoking and plug fouling. gregjo1948

The TH16 and 18 Kohlers were a "bad" engine!!! By that I mean not very good!!!

Sounds like me!!

I cannot say that I have ever worked on one of those, I am pretty sure that I have not, but I would still suggest looking at the head gaskets. Something that would cause would to be forced to place it shouldn't. But s I said, I m not familiar with this engine at all.
