Need help or advice. Kohler CH26 is backfiring and bogging down/losing power. Here’s what I’ve done so far.

-Drained old fuel out of tanks and replace with new fuel
-Replaced fuel filter
-Replaced spark plugs
-Verified fuel pressure is @39psi
-About to replace ignition coils when they arrive.

Anything else that might be my problem?

I pulled the valve covers off because they were leaking oil and the oil is thinning out and smelling like fuel a bit. Going to do a compression test soon.

Is the MIL light illuminated. That can give us direction for fault codes. And stop doing the shotgun parts replacement until we have more information to go on. Like are you loosing fire and that is the reason you are replacing the ignition modules. And lets find out compression but I doubt that is a concern.

Yes looks like light is illuminated. I don’t know anything about fault code system though so I apologize. I see red light on, but don’t know how to read the codes?

Not sure if it’s loosing fire. The backfiring only seems to be when it warms up and gets hot, and faulty coils I thought tend to be culprit cause they can do well cold but not warm.

So I followed some directions, and the light blinks 2-3-6-1 and then pauses for 3 seconds and goes solid light.

Should be a four digit error code. And post the model and spec of the engine so I can make I am looking at the correct service manual.
