Good deal, glad it was something simple. This engine design has developed a bad reputation over the years. Watch for any oil leaking from the top cover area and running down the block. That is an early sign that the case bolts have loosened up and need to be retightened. If the bolts are left loose, it will crack the main engine case.
A little bit of seepage with dirt collected all over it is fairly common, but if you see actual oil, that is a bad sign. Make sure to check your oil ever time before starting.

Update - I replaced the motor with the exact engine and my brother has used it all summer. I'll bring it back home next spring and give it a good inspection and fluid and filter change
