Engine knocking probs.

I have a loud knocking in my 15.5 b/s, sounds like a hammer knocking in side the muffler. Any ideals ?

Maybe not. Might be a valve part. Or maybe a new head either is cheaper than a new motor

I agree the mounting bolts are loose.
I bet the noise is worse on shut down.
Anyways it is the cheapest and easiest thing to check. Always start at the most obvious things first.

if it was top end it would be more of a tick and less of a knock right? i'm not experienced with lawn tractor engines so i might be wrong but i am with car & push mower motors.

Depends on the engine ohv engines can make lots of noise he said that he heard it close to the exhaust so that makes me believe its related to the head or possibly muffler
