When doing a compression test on a Kawasaki FH601V 19HP, what should the guage read if good compression? Have heard 56 psi and then heard 120 psi. Which is it?

There is no number and generally plain compression tests are not done because they will vary according to the amount of valve lash
The tighter the clearance the longer the decompressor holds the valve open for so the lower the compression reading.
Kawasaki usually quote 65 to 95
A leak down test is the only reliable compression test to do

Generally Bert is right as the engine has automatic compression release. But Kawasaki does have a spec listed in the service manual.

As for doing a leak down test , I would do a modified version of the test if you have a low pressure version instead the 100 psi version. This involved disabling the valve train so the mid and lower cylinder areas can be tested too, just not the top of the cylinder as most high pressure testers do. A taper and ovaled lower cylinder will show up in the modified test.

It dangerous to attempt the modified test with the 100 psi testers but a 10-20 psi is lot safer. My current tester operates at 12 psi.

How is a leak down done with an ACR? Guessing valves fully closed obviously.
