John Deere lx172 with a Kawasaki 14 hp engine. I bought an oil seal to install, the whole undercarriage had oil caked to it, but when I dropped the PTO there was no oil dripping from the seal. Shouldn't I see some leakage from the seal? Engine runs fine no smoke, and good power, if it isn't the oil seal where is the leak coming from?
Thanks

Start from the beginning. Very first thing is a really good clean job. A oil leak will travel so the only way to find it is a clean engine.
Sump gasket
Dip stick tube
Head gasket.
Oil switch ( if it has one )
If it was over filled it will bleed everywhere
The correct fill level is around the level of the end of the dip stick tube and if overfilled it will leak out while sitting still.
And do not overlook spilled oil.
For whatever reason no one knows all small engines have a tiny filler tube that overflows very readily.
Have you dipped the oil ?
how much is in there?
