Sold my tried and true HRB215 and jumped up to an HRX217HYA. Now I have to wait for the grass to grow enough to cut it! The blade brake is an interesting feature. Never used a mower with that before. Engine bogs for a second when engaging the blades. At least I have plenty of forward speeds to choose from...

Nice upgrade. The HRX was a progression from all that was learned from the HRB/HRM products, plus a revived R&D program (next door to the factory in North Carolina) that was totally committed to making the best mower possible. One of the chief design engineers on the original HRX is still with Honda....in North Carolina....but now at the HondaJet facility :) What a tough gig that must be.

Congratulations on your new honda purchase. Your mind will be BLOWN when you use this machine and whether you bag or mulch with it. One thing I wanted to point out to you about when you engage the blades and it bogs for a second. When you fire up this mower cold ok, if you look into your owners manual you will see it will say let it warm up for 3 minutes before you engage the blade brake clutch system. If the engine is not HEAT SOAK Warm, it could stall and then when you go to restart it, it may not restart because that mower has whats called an auto choke system that works off of heat. So what i am saying is that if you fire it up for 30 seconds and then turn it off for any reason or stall it, it may be a pain in the butt to restart it until it cools back down. Robert can elaberate more on this as he works for honda and is THE MAN to speak to about anything honda products. To keep it simple, start it up from cold start and let it work up a good 1-2 minutes then engage the bbc system and it will be fine. FYI when the mower is warmed up and then you turn it off and then go to start it again, it will be like normal. Any questions??? Just ask Always refer to the owners manual when in doubt. You wouldnt believe how many people do not read them and could learn so much about the product if they did. Good Luck with the new Honda!!

Finally had a chance to use the new mower. Very smooth operation and nice cut. The ONLY thing so far is the clip director is horrible. I could easily have filled the bag with clippings going past the door. There is a noticeable gap with the clip director fully closed. That's the only thing that's NOT an improvement over my HRB as far as I can tell.

I have the same problem with the clip director, but it's intermittent. Sometimes it shoots clippings out the back when it's set on full mulch, and sometimes it doesn't. I've tried to figure what makes the difference, but I'm stumped. A real nusiance! Anyone out there that has ideas on this?

Just keep the bag attached to catch those runaways

If that's the only thing that ever goes wrong with the mower I really have nothing to complain about. I'm ecstatic over being able to mow over 3 inches and hopefully keep my lawn from burning. I thought about a Toro Super Recycler, but couldn't justify a brand switch. Too much luck with the old machine for too many years to justify a switch.
