My belt broke and I replaced the belt but I cant seem to tighten it back up. How do you tighten this model?

not sure what you mean.
The belt should be loose with the blades turned on and go tight when the PTO lever pulls the cable to move the tensioning pulley .
IF thta does not happen they you either have the wrong belt or the belt is routed wrong.

All those have the sliding mechanism that you can loosen and pull back to make them tighten. Mine has a welded piece. That's why I posted the pics. I know how to use Google.

I ordered one made for a John deere 42 inch deck, maybe the company sent the wrong one?

The sliding anchor was for fine tuning the cable and not really necessary .
No JD expert but there are a lot of 42" decks
My supplier list 4 belts and they are yet to list the new aceel deep deck .
Hard to get the belt on wrong, to be a little polite, it looks rather like a drawing you might see on the back door of a public toilet.
To go any further we need to know which JD mower you are trying to fit the belt on
Please supply the numbers found on the ID tag

Well there is two cables. Depends on your serial number. Also just be aware JD don't always have the correct serial number breaks on their IPLs.

GY21641 Serial No. ______-700000
GY22387 Serial No. 700001-______

Early cable has a Z bend on the spring and the later has a hook end on the spring.

I have a d110 with the same issue. The belt will not tighten as it should. New belt, routed correctly and I am dumbfounded.

How old is the deck and what are the pulleys like ?
You don't need too much wear on the pulleys to make a belt run slack.
Then there is the PTO lever itself
Seen a lot of them ( and on orange mowers as well ) flogged out so the lever is loose on the shaft .
Again a 1/4" on the arm that pulls the cable can be well over 2" at the belt

True the keepers will keep the belt from jumping off if the tensioners are working. The L bracket is the issue as the cable stretches over time. If you flip the deck you will find the two holes that are punched during the stamping process. Drill through the L bracket from underneath, cut welds, slot hole and use two bolts with nuts and lockwasher or tap the holes. Now it is adustable to make up for the slack in the engage cable.
