john deere 245 wont start

i have a john deere 245 wont run. got spark ,fuel ,comppresion checked key on flywheel its good.checked valves working good. when i put a little gas in carb it back fires threw carb. any sugestions ?

I suggest you check the valve clearance. If it is off you will not get enough fuel into the cylinder. Post engine numbers and i'll find you a manual. Is it an Intec or Vanguarrd?Don't bother with the posts on the 160 or 170, they won't help you, because nothing was solved.

Hope this manual helps. Sorry I wasn't thinking. I assumed you had a Briggs after I saw the posts on the 160/170. I should know better. Sorry again.

If it's backfiring through the carb after squirting some gas in it, sounds to me like the flywheel key might be partially crimped but not quite sheared off. Doesn't take much of a dent in the key to make it kick and sputter etc. Check the flywheel key.

thats the fist thing i thought with the back firing already check it looked good
with out putting gas in the carb it just cranks no fire
