JD Kawasaki bearing

I am rebuilding a 580 Kawasaki engine and the lower bearing seems to be coated with a hard film, is this normal or should this hard film be removed before reasembly ,never seen a bearing like this.

Most likely a bearing retaining compound.
Remove it. check the bearing fit as you might have to use locktite gap filler aound it if it is too sloppy or even a speedy shim if there is a lot of play.
I have seen meteric bearings fitted to replace imperial ones with a lot of gunk to glue them into space.

My guess is it's corrosion protection and needs to be thoroughly cleaned before use.

Can you see the brand name, such as Fafnir, Timken, etc.? If you can, then go to their website and see what they have to say about bearing installation. The coating might be explained there.

What in the world are you talking about, never heard of such a thing. The only time I have ever done or seen anything like that was if a bearing set up and spun in the housing or on the shaft they do make a filler for this. One brand I use is Belzona which is just made for this problem. It more like a emergency repair.

.Sorry I wasnt clear , This is a bushing on the crank shaft as it exits the cover , main bushing on the crankshaft , it can not be replaced so whole cover must be replaced, the bushing has a coating over the metal ,looked like a hard covering ,scrapeed off easily but surface looks porous underneath, I think it may be coated bushing ,I have never worked on Kawasaki before ,all Briggs engines have a aluminum bushing at this point

Ok now it become a little more clearer.
Steel & bronze bushings can come coated in tefllon which should not be removed.
While metal bushes are oft coated with indium which also should not be removed.
When you said bearing I was thinking balls or roller race.
