just replaced the engine on my D170. Now it will not start. New engine is the proper replacement engine for this lawn tractor. All connection fit exactly. I'm at a loss for what is wrong.

This is an internet forum , not a Western Union telegram .
You are not charged by the word so how about a few more ?
Does not crank ?
Cranks but does not fire ?
Fires a couple of times but does not run ?
Runs if you put some fuel directly down the plug hole ?
Has a spark a the plugs ?

ok, GOT IT.
Doesn't crank. checked all the connections again, new battery fully charged. put multimeter on connections, shows full power.
Does that help?

Does it make any noise at all when you turn the key ?
Did you touch anything electrical other than the engine to mower & PTO plugs ?

Start with the fuse
Good chance that you managed to short something while swapping the engines over .
Then check that the ground strap has been replaced .and is done up tight

I tested the starter Solenoid, and found it to be defective. Either I inadvertently shorted it out, or it died of old age. Regardless, I've ordered another. We'll see what this will do.

I installed a new solenoid, and decided to replace the relay also. Now the new engine starts right up and runs well. Thanks for the replies.
