Super Tech and Rotella are available at the local wally world in my area for $18 gallon in 30W and they sell fast. I cannot make a trip just to get a gallon, I have to grab when I see it on the shelf.
(no multi grade conventional available in gallon jugs at Walleys.)

I'm thinking of going to a blend type in my old auto's since conventional oils are becoming hard to acquire.

Most of today's so-called conventional oils are synthetic blend.
There are outliers like Valvoline VR-1.

I have a friend who worked for Walmart as a floor planning manager. Every inch of space that has potential to sell an item is utilized. If items fall out of popularity with one store, they will ship them off to other locations to keep them selling.

People have to understand that Walmart constantly adjusts their stock and makes rolling changes to sell the more common fast-moving items. Store stocks and shelf arrangements literally change overnight at most locations. SAE 30 oil is simply not a fast-moving oil product compared SAE 15W-50 or 5W-20.

When I plan to stock up, I usually shop online and have whatever I need delivered to my local store or even to my shop.

My local walmart has not stocked straight 30w in 3 or 4 years, in any brand, or in any size. The local Ace Hardware store carries Pennzoil 30w in quarts and in a fairly large quantity. So does my local farm supply store. My local Lowe's carries the Briggs brand, of course. I use Rotella T 15w40 in all my diesel engines, and have for 40 years. I've been advised not to use a multigrade oil in small air cooled engines, though. Seems it was something like the zinc content of 30w oil was necessary for those.

Makes total sense. Funny thing is when they DID have it on the shelf, my store was a gamble if they had any left or not. Usually had to go on the weekday and get some. Weekends the shelves get raped.

I buy several 5 gallon buckets of Citgo 10W-30 locally at place that sells lubricants. The local Walmart became to unreliable on stock availability as well as cost and quantity I was needing.
