iphone pics sent in email look correct until clicked on to open and then they rotate 90° ccw. Why , and is there a solution?

Its because when you took the photo, you had the phone in vertical like you would normally hold it.
Take a photo with phone horizontal and upload again.

Is the picture bigger when it is rotated CCW? If so, maybe it is set to a mode that rotates it whatever way is necessary to make the picture the largest possible. For example, look at the following picture. On the left side is probably what you want to open the picture as, but it is opening like the one on the right so the picture can be bigger? Just an idea.

It has to be a setting on your phone. Mine does not do it

I've received pics via email from an ipad that rotated them 180 degrees when opened. The more the smart folks try to improve the more aggravating they make it.
