I need an engine control cable for this mower. I have the engine number but the model number for the mower has been scratched off. Anyone know the part number for the cable I need?

Sometimes the part number of the cable is printed on the cable housing itself. So may be worth a look.

That is a mower part so engine numbers won't help.

As IL said with AYP and MTD too these cables usually have the part imprinted on the cable housing. Also to find out what the model of the mower is take the bar code to Sears they should be able scan it and find out what the model of that mower.

That label looks like someone intentionally destroyed the model and serial numbers.

You can measure the conduit length and cable length, then find a generic replacement. I just used this one from ebay - it was a little long but no problem. A little short - now, that'd be a problem. I drilled a new hole in the handle side to secure cable at the proper place.

I was thinking the same about the label. My first thought was stolen.

Yeah it does look like someone scratched it off. There’s no numbers on the cable or housing unfortunately.

Around here the no. one option is to take off the cable and ends, head to the Western Auto store and the guys will match it up. Usually have about 50 cables, 500 belts, etc on hand. Actually have very reasonable prices too.

Most mower repair shops carry bulk cable and have a z bender so can make you a new cable .
Most do not charge particularly much for this service
I do not charge a fitting fee because I charge the customer the same price as an off the shelf cable so I have made a reasonable profit.
