Hustler raptor kohler 7000 series gas smell in air filter

i have a hustler raptor with a kohler 7000 series engine..in my air filter housing i can smell gas..the filter looks like gas has got on it too..im trying to determine if this is a carb problem which i am thinking it is or something else..the mower runs fine and does not smoke..any help will be appreciated

its at the full mark but im ging to change the oil again

would it do that if it was over full? i dont know much about mowers

Depends why it is over full. Contaminated with fuel. Can Ruin the engine. Water can ruin the engine. Check the fuel contamination with a cigarett lighter and see if the oil will burn. If not ok. If it has water oil will look milky and when check it with a lighter if will pop and fizzle.

The last time I smelled raw gas it was from a spark plug not firing because the spark plug wire was chewed through by rodents. I think that was coming out the exhaust though.
