Husqv Trimmer wont start

I have a Husqvarna 128LD gas trimmer, probably 7 years old, used for my yard and the lady next door. My 15 yo son is the primary operator and he has had a lot of problems keeping it running this year.

In the past week, I changed the spark plug and the carburetor. Started right up. He ran it for 20-30 mins then it died and wouldn't restart. I took out the plug and it seemed to barely be getting any spark, so I disassembled the entire engine and re-gapped the fly-wheel mags to the ignition. I also cleaned a lot of grease and dirt off the magnet facing contacts of the ignition. (Does dirt affect magnet/ignition operation?

I also took the fuel filter off and ordered a new one. In the mean time I'm running it without a filter.

So last night after reassembling it started right up and ran great. My kid trimmed most of the yard, then it died again and won't start. Any ideas?

Could the ignition be dirty again already? It is highly likely that unfiltered fuel clogged the carb in less than 30 mins? Spark plug fouled maybe? I don't have time to overhaul the engine before every use, so should I just drop $200 on a new Stihl or is there something I can do to get this running thru the rest of the summer without constantly breaking down?

Does it start after it sits for awhile and cools off?

Firstly you can block a carb from running without a filter in 1 minute let alone 30 minutes.
Magnets are not affected by dirt dust & debris, Remember the old school experiments with iron filings on a sheet of heavy paper ( plastic now days ) and a magnet underneath ?
If the carb is mal adjusted it will load up the spark plug which will cause a no start situation.
The last bit is up to you.
Before you make a desision remove the muffler and check the condition of the piston rings & bore.
I repair a lot of very old trimmers & chains saws because the new ones are not a patch on the old ones.

OK, I put the old fuel filter back on. That doesn't seem to be the problem. It will start, but when run at lowish RPMs it will just cut out and suddenly die after a few seconds. At full speed it will run longer but eventually cut out and die.

The issue is not the idle speed. When I let it idle too low, it will modulate up and down in RPMs for 10 seconds before it does. This is a more sudden cut out than that. Which seems to indicate an electrical issue, is that correct? The cut out sounds exactly the same as when I press the stop button.

Is there a way to override the electrical circuit to keep it running and take all the switches/wiring out of the picture?
