HURRICANE SANDY: STAY SAFE!

Now that Hurricane Sandy will soon be making her way up the east coast, I hope everyone the best of luck! Anywhere from Florida to New England. It is supposed to rain and be very windy here Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Great! :frown:
To tell you the truth I should be telling myself this because look at the track! It will head right at us!! And it might still be a Cat. 1 hurricane (winds @ 75 mph) when it is off the coast of New Jersey!!

Good luck to everyone on the east coast!!

HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY The weather man just said we could get up to a foot of rain in our area. Or even SNOW with the cold front coming in from this storm.

I'm sorry to hear that, but I must say - what a strange name for a hurricane!

We got a small snow shower here just half an hour ago, winter is coming! :frown:

They're now calling it "Frankenstorm" since it's supposed to hit right before Halloween.

I know, same with us...weird.....snow during a hurricane!! But it might happen in PA, also, not just North Carolina where you live. :frown:

Yeah, it could be a good thing to do. I would recommend you wait to put out flyers until after Sandy is finished...they might blow away!

It could the last storm that hit here gave a friend of mine a contract to clean up downed trees and brush for over $150,000.00 for a weeks worth of work. After he paid the help and his self he still made over $100,000.00 for his business.

The rains here, the winds coming and with it 6"-8" of rain. My yard will be a swamp for a week. Here it is going into the last month of hurricane season and we get this. :frown:
Looks like it's going right up the middle of Pa. Good luck to all of you in it's path.

Yeah, right into the path of me!! It will start tomorrow, not sure exactly when. I finished all the yards I needed to mow, and got everything inside (patio furniture, yard sign, etc.). I am ready for whatever Sandy unleashes!! Hopefully!:frown:

Yep...I agree. The unfortunate thing is we have 3 pine trees near our house and they have very shallow root systems (pine trees in general do). Since it is going to rain and rain for days, the ground will get soft, and the wind might knock them over!! I hope they don't fall!

I know what you mean, I have 3- 60'+ pines in my back yard. Also a 3 acre lake that takes in all the water from the surrounding area. Yes it will rise.

It's drizzling a little here, with light winds. The rain will increase later today into the nighttime hours and the wind will increase as the day goes on. I think the worst part of the storm will be Monday night.

The storm is pretty bad. We got over 2 inches of rain so far, but the wind is really strong. But it is nothing like at the shore. One of the boardwalks on the beach was damaged, and there is a lot of water in the streets.

I will try to go out tomorrow to take some pics. I took some today but nothing great. It's not like our street is flooded or anything like that. But there is a creak near our house so I will see if that is flooded.

A braved the elements and went to take some pics.....sorry they are not the best. It was hard to take pics because it was getting dark out and pouring, so I took a video and got these snapshots from the video. As you can see, the creek is at the top--level with the grass, and in some spots overflowing. It will definitely overflow tonight into tomorrow. This is the 3rd year in a row it will overflow. Sept. 2010, Sept. 2011, Oct. 2012. :licking:
The first picture (since it is a little hard to see) is showing the creek in the background. The creek is above the red dashes I drew on the picture, and in the circle, you can see where the creek overflowed.
The second picture is easy to see----creek on left, overflowed on right.
The third picture shows the creek in the center of the picture, right up to the top of the cement walls.

Nice shots and it is really taking the leaves down.

I know! My tree has lost SOOO many leaves because of the storm. If I can I will get out tomorrow to see the road TOTALLY covered with water since it is going to continue to rain (and we windy :frown: all night).

Just a minute ago we got a 38 mph gust, which for in a residential neighborhood is pretty strong! It is usually staying around 25-30 mph. If we got in the middle of a field, the gusts would be 50+!!

Mad Mackie and bride are OK!! Just fired up the generator and took a walk thru the woods and surprisingly little came down. But no power, no cable, no cellphone, just telephone and internet and the newspapers just arrived!!!
The folks west of NJ are still getting battered!! We had some 65-70 MPH gusts last PM so my weather station tells me, I just checked its memory and reset it.
Take care all

Luckily we have power and internet, but no telephone. :frown: But that is fine...I'm glad we have electricity. On my weather station the max wind gust I recorded was 38 mph, which is pretty strong for a residential neighborhood. Today is going to be chilly (around 42 degrees) and rain/snow throughout the day....CRAPPY WEATHER!
There was no damage to our house, just leaves and sticks down in the front yard, but a lot of the houses in the area have flooded basements. I'm so glad we live on a hill!

Raining again here, also. It stopped earlier this morning and I had a chance to rake the front yard and clear the leaves out of the gutter of the street. We still are getting some strong wind gusts, but not as frequent as yesterday.

I wasn't on LMF yesterday :frown: because of what the hurricane did. It was not nearly as bad as having your house flood, but we lost our home phone and internet during the storm. :frown: Actually, we lost our phone, and then we lost our internet AFTER the storm. :confused3: Ugg! Well, we have it back now!
