HONDA HRX 217 Mower Question!

Hi,
I have about a 2 year old HRX 217 Mower and noticed that it takes now 5 or 6 good pulls before it fires off after sitting a few weeks.

After it starts and runs, then that day it will start back up first pull.

Is that normal for these Honda Mowers?

I have owned Honda Motorcycles my whole life but this is my first HONDA Mower!

The throttle cable slips under the clamp so when you put it in the choke position the choke is not fully closed .

Have you looked to see if the choke plate has closed all the way when the engine is cold? Perhaps it's partly open, even if just a little bit.

Take the air filter off
put your finger on the choke plate
if you can push it a bit further closed then the auto choke unit is faulty .

Auto chokes are by & large not repairable.
You can break some open and replace the spring or wax but generally the repair will not last for long.
So it is an either or case
If the choke butterfly is not closing fully when the engine is cold .
If there is no auto choke you adjust the throttle cable
If there is an auto choke you replace the choke

If the choke plate is fully closed then the idle circuit in the carb will be at fault .

Hi,
Well, I checked the throttle plate cold and it is completely closed.

I went to start it up and it started on the third pull so, I cleaned it up and I'm going to call it good for now...

As it's summer and HOT.

Might pull the carb this winter and clean it along with some other end of season maintance items.

I live in Florida, so use the mower year round, but more in summer, of course.

Thanks for the help and info, I now know more about HONDA Auto Choke, than I did!!!
