Briggs Model #33R877 Type #0008 G1 Code #180411ZD Engine seems to have high compression. Intake valve set a .003 Exhaust valve set at .005 engine will start to turn over then stops like there is too much compression, turn engine by hand a little bit more and it will sometimes start. Take the plug out and it turns over ok. New battery and new starter. flywheel key is ok. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Take the valve cover back of and take the plug out. Now turn the flywheel by hand and watch the bottom valve which is the intake. As you turn the engine the intake valve will close and then should bump open slightly just before TDC. If that bump doesn't happen then that would indicate that the compression release is broke on the camshaft and then it is camshaft replacement time.

ok I will try that, another thing I forgot to mention, as the engine tries to turn over it backfires through the carburetor when trying to start.
