Just replaced points, condenser, magneto, and spark plug. Still not getting a spark. I noticed that this circled piece is stuck and looks like it should be moving. Any help would be great.image.jpeg

Its the plunger that moves the points open and close. They are replaceable

Is there any way that I can get the plunger to move again without having to replace it?:confused3:

The points spring pushes this plunger down onto the cam
As the cam rotates it pushes up against the plunger to open the points.
Periodically the plunger should get a littledab of grease or the action of the cam wears it dwn so much that it can no longer open the points .
No open points, no spark.

But my spark tester still shows that I am getting a spark. Is it supposed to be able to move with just my hand?

Are you getting spark or not??? Your first post said no spark and here you are getting spark? That rod will wear down and not open the points proper. The rod just pulls out and very easy to replace. You will have to re gap your points

I messed that up. I get a spark when I ground the wire to the machine but no spark when I attach it to the spark plug.

Bad spark plug? Weak coil? Ok what are the points gap set at? This gap is very important because it also sets the timing.

I am looking at the picture you sent. My guess is that you have a Briggs and Stratton engine. The point gap should be .020 if that is the case. If you can't get a setting of .020 the point push rod will have to be replaced. If it is some other brand engine get the right specs for your engine.

It is set at 0.020

I don't know then? Your points are opening to .020, nothing wrong there. New magneto (coil) did you install it upside down? what is the coils air gap? Did you touch the point contacts with oil on your hands or just touch them? Are the points closing all the way and making good contact? Is the kill wire shorting out? Did you crack the new spark plug? Is the plug wire end on good to the plug and wire? Re check all your work because you are missing or doing something wrong.
