HELP PLEASE!! HOW TO TELL WHAT MODEL YEAR MY CRAFTSMAN IS????

I was looking for a new steering unit for my Craftsman turbo cool 15.5hp because its starting to get a bit sloppy and i would rather change it now then wait till the last minute.

I talked to a guy that has one (its new he got it from a guy that wanted it placed on his craftsman but never came back to have the work done?? over a year ago) but he said i need the year of the mower...

the model # is 917.256522 serial # is 0417968 006607 anyone have any idea? Sears says they dont give that info out... But can sell me one for 100.00 bucks

Go to sears parts online. I know most craftsman steering parts are the same for many years

If it has a B&S engine on it, the first to numbers in the code are the year the engine was built. The code number is the last set of numbers. Model number first, type number second, code third.
