If your hydraulic system works properly when the engine is running, I don’t see a problem. As Bert said, I would check the oli level.

Come to think of it, I'm not actually sure the lift is hydraulic.

I'm looking through the parts list and I can't see anything there that would suggest that the lift is nothing more than mechanical.

Am I wrong?

I was not think when I said hydraulic lift, you are correct, that lift is mechanical. If you don’t have these, they are the operator and parts manuals, which will explain the lift control and show you the parts. With them I hope you better understand the use of the lift control. Plus you can use the parts manual to make sure everything is hooked up properly. Sorry for my blunder, if you need more help post back.
