Having trouble getting on trailer

My mower is getting harder and harder to get on my trailer it seems. My truck is low and is a bumper mounted ball tow so I can't flip the tongue. The gate is a 4 door gate but with my truck bein so low the angle is too great to let the mower on. Any suggestions ? I was thinking of bolting some 2x4s to the gate and driving up on them. Just wanted to see if anyone had any of the same issues

Yes I had the same issue, I was using a 2" drop ball mount flipped it over. I even went to a 3" flipped to solve the issue so If you have the hitch bar and ball mount Yes you can flip the ball mount over to gain some height at the truck but remember and be careful not to increase the height to much because it can cause towing problems if the trailer is to much out of balance. Ideally you want the trailer as level as possible for the best towing and loading.

If the trailer has a lift jack in the front, just put a block of wood under it while still hooked to the truck and raise the front up with the jack. A small amount makes a big difference when trying to load mowers with low decks. Good luck

Since you do not have a box hitch and you have this style of bumper commonly referred to as a step bumper with a mount hole for a hitch ball.

You can obtain a Hitch Ball Hi-Rise, Chrome-Plated, 2in. Dia., Model# 1802140 from northern Tool for $11.99 as seen below.
This will raise your trailer tongue and will make your access easier and less complicated.
If that is not enough the shank is long enough to accommodate extra washers to give even more lift.

Another alternative but more expensive and laborious is air shocks, add more leafspring or taller coil springs for your tow vehicle remembering to keep the trailer as level as possible for safely towing. :thumbsup:

Or you can bolt on one of these to get the benefits of a drop/rise ball mount as Ric suggested.

Caution: Never exceed your bumper's Gross Towing Weight! Not only for the hitch, also make sure you check your bumper specifications as well before towing.

nearly flipped my ztr on a gate with too steep of an angle....flipped my hitch over and it helps but i load by backing onto trailer now

I pick up different mowers all the time for my mower repairs. This is the system I use.
