I will see if I can get a picture of the 3hp tecumseh 2-cycle up for you.

Even if you couldn't get what you were after, atleast you have a mower yard to browse through. I've got nothing here, sure wish there was!

Yep the guys at the shop are pretty cool there. Since they know I'm a nut about the older snappers they'll even keep an eye out for "junk" I may want. My favorite mower I actually got there, the 1987 214X1PR-2 two-stroke Wisconsin Robin. Some guy just left it and bought something new. I cleaned it up and it runs great. Didn't even need a carb cleaning, just cosmetic clean-up was all I did.

Sorry it took so long, but here it is. This engine has a different style recoil than all the other ones Ive seen. Maybe its older? I bet mowjoe has the answer!

Ya I can't say I've ever seen that particular engine/recoil. Is the s/n visible on the decal?

Pretty much everything without the safety handles (pre-1982) had vertical pull starters. IIRC, the 4 cycle Tecumsehs used this starter too, but it was covered by the gas tank. On the 1982 and newer mowers you had to stand somewhat to the rear of the mower to start it and squeeze the handle, which pretty much required the top mounted recoil, so it could be angled back.

I knew about the pre-'82 thing but the tecs I have seen from back then had the recoil where the gas tank was covering it. That design with it off to the side is a new one for me. Tecs are sure rare out here, would like to find one.
