grasshopper 721D won't start

I bought my grasshopper 721 Diesel new in 2002 - and it has never failed me - just change fluids and sharpen the blades. Well today, it happened - it won't start (must be a safety switch isssue) and the Grasshopper dealer has a 2-week backlog. Their service guy was nice enough to tell me keep wiggling and keep trying....but I have wiggled to no avail. Today I am going to attempt tracing the wires to find/bypass switches but can use all the coaching I can get. Ideas?

Grasshopper have an excellent customer support.

Will it crank ( engine turning over )
And just won't fire?
Or does it do nothing?

It does NOTHING - as if some safety switch somewhere is misbehaving. I know I should be sitting on the seat, PTO off, arm levers out, emergency brake engaged.
