Grasshopper 720 k engine options

Ok guys I need some help I have a 720k with a 20hp kholer ch20s.the valve covers started leaking when my dad borrowed the mower.well he went to tighten them and broke 2 of them off .drilled one out but drilled through the bolt hole and broke an ease out off in the other one the mower also has a charging problem need a new stator .I would like more horse power as I'm mowing several acres twice a month .so are there any other kholers with more hp that would be a direct replacement. Also are there any heads that would interchange from another kholer motor. Plz help me thanks in advance

Can you also supply the spec number from the engine so we can see what configuration that you have for engine comparisons. Also is possible delete the other thread that you started with the same subject because it leads to multiple people posting in both threads and makes helping people confusing.

The recommended replacement engine is a CH640-3149 something else to consider is a 24 522 155-s short block. and the heads on your engine should fit most of the CH/CV18-20-22 and the CH/CV640-670-680 engines.

Thank you sir .let's clarify if i want a direct replacement ch640-3149 if i need i new head on my engine I have currently use one for a ch20s or
CH/CV18-20-22 and the CH/CV640-670-680 engines.
What if I want more hp like 25 is there a direct replacement?

You can put a 100Hp engine in there if you really want to
However unless you regularly mow 10' tall wet pasture it will not make a tinkers curse of a difference other than using a lot more fuel.
When the mower was designed they worked out the power demand of the engine then multiplied it by 1.25 and fitted the engine you currently have.
Add to that a bigger engine is a lot harder on deck belts every time you turn them on so tend to snap more deck belts.
Any engine that uses the same short block will drop right in, but if you go for one with a bigger black then the muffler will not fit and there may not be one that will fit your machine

So from what I have read I can go up to 22 hp .or I can just find a head that fits the ch20s .which would be what other heads part number would be great .it would be the driver side head if it was a car
